Everyone! There are massage benefits for nearly everyone. Whether you are healthy, suffer from musculoskeletal injuries, are an athlete, or are in chronic pain, massage provides support for overall wellness. Swedish massage has been shown to produce stronger relaxation responses, and improved sleep. Healthy people receiving massage have a sense of energy and revitalization as well as improvements in immune system function. Studies have also shown that those with an overall status of health, have reductions in stress-related hormones. Musculoskeletal injuries, such as muscle and tendon injuries, sprains, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and tennis/golf elbow. Muscle and tendon injuries are usually related to overuse. Massage is a noninvasive way to successful recovery of this overuse. Sprains respond to massage and improvement in stability and balance can be expected from manual therapy. Massage for plantar fasciitis focused on the lower leg and feet and lends to longer relief from the symptoms of this painful condition. Future occurrences of plantar fasciitis can often be kept at bay with regular treatments. Carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis/golf elbow can all be helped with manual therapies. Relieve of pain and increases range of motion, as well as increases strength, are all benefits of massage therapy for these conditions. There is some debate about whether massage is better before or after events when it comes to working with athletes. My personal belief is before, during, and after. Muscles can often become damaged due to overuse and massage can improve strength in those muscles. Massage can hep with recovery so training can ensue quicker and can help potentially reduce the likelihood of injury to muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Following athletic competitions or events, massage can ease tired muscles and help with soreness. We hear a lot these days about chronic and/or acute pain with the current opioid epidemic happening. Some of the most common complaints are back and neck pain, pain related to Fibromyalgia, and headaches. Using massage to treat pain is noninvasive and safe treatment. Massage used solely or complimentary can improve, control, and/or alleviate pain, increase range of motion, improve sleep and mood, along with a host of other benefits. Manual treatments, such as massage are a great way to potentially decrease or alleviate the need for pharmaceutical treatments, particularly opioids. These are the most common categories in which people fall into that would benefit from massage and manual therapies. We always cater massages to the individual and aim to provide the best possible treatment to aid in overall and everyday health. Swedish utilizes gliding and kneading strokes to restore overall wellbeing. This massage is very relaxing and restores energy and blood flow reduces stress and anxiety, and increases lymph drainage. If you are a first timer or do not want heavy pressure, this is the massage for you. Deep Tissue/Neuromuscular focuses on deeper layers of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia (connective tissue) to relieve chronic muscle tension, aches, and pains. This massage goes below the surface muscles and utilizes a deeper pressure than Swedish and is used to create more pliable muscles, increased range of motion, and decreased pain and stiffness. Prenatal focuses on the discomforts associated with pregnancy, such as low back pain, leg cramps, shoulder and neck pain, headaches, and edema (swelling). Please note that if there are complications with pregnancy a doctor’s recommendation may be necessary and this massage is done in a side-lying position. Sports Massage is geared towards those participating in athletics. The modalities used are to help prevent injuries, to maintain optimal health while training, to help prepare the body for athletic activity, and to aid in recovery from workouts. Hot Stone Massage uses smooth hot stones as an extension of their hands and by placing them on the body. Hot stone therapy eases stiff and tired muscles and increases circulation. The heat is deeply relaxing and it can warm up tissues so the therapist may work deeper if necessary. Japanese Restorative Therapy is a deep style massage using primarily the forearm and elbow, along with stretching, to balance the body's energy and to promote healing. Japanese Restorative Therapy helps to break down injured soft tissue in order to allow proper healing. Joints will be looser and increased range of motion are the goal. Bamboo Fusion Massage uses various lengths of smooth bamboo stalks to perform massage. This type of massage uses bamboo to knead tissue in a Swedish or Deep Tissue massage. The stalks are slightly heated and used to soothe sore, painful, tired, or tender muscles. Stretch Therapy is a wonderful body treatment for all ages, body types, and conditions. This head to toe treatment includes fascial and active isolating stretching to reduce pain and soreness, increase range of motion, lengthen fascia, and the promotion of relaxation to name just a few benefits. This service can be provided as an add-on or as a stand-alone service. Reflexology uses the fingers, thumbs, and knuckles to apply specific pressure to the feet and hands. It is believed that specific areas of the feet and hands correspond to organs and systems of the body. By engaging these areas, beneficial effects on general health and operating occur. We are always here to answer any questions about treatment and work hard to provide the best treatments at affordable costs. The types of massage are guidelines as to what to expect from your session, but it is important to understand that all of your massages here will be customized to serve your needs and to optimize your experience at Tranquility Massage and Wellness.
